Will not light gas log fireplace quickly This seemed like an ideal solution to lighting a gas log fireplace, especially with its long reach. It should in theory work, since it is the same mechanism which effectively lights gas grills. However, I was disappointed to find it will not light our gas logs unless you wait an uncomfortably long time for the gas to build up. This seems too risky to me, so I went back to butane lighters which ignight the gas immediately. It may be too weak a spark and too recessed to light some gas appliances…
